With remasters and remakes gaining popularity, it’s surprising that so many iconic PSP games remain untouched. While Sony has re-released some titles through PlayStation Plus or digital storefronts, many standout PSP SAJITOTO games are still locked behind outdated hardware. Given their rich worlds and compelling gameplay, these titles absolutely deserve a modern revival.
One of the most-requested remasters is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which, fortunately, did receive a modern re-release in 2022. But others like Daxter and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo remain PSP exclusives. These games not only pushed the hardware limits of the PSP but also filled important narrative and gameplay gaps within their respective franchises. A remaster could introduce them to new audiences while enhancing them with modern controls and visuals.
Then there’s The 3rd Birthday, the spiritual successor to the Parasite Eve series. Despite its polarizing reception, it had a unique combat system and intriguing lore that could shine with a second chance. Similarly, Resistance: Retribution brought the alternate-history shooter genre to handhelds with impressive execution. Both deserve the opportunity to be experienced with a smoother framerate, higher resolution, and refined UI.
Fans continue to emulate PSP games today, not just for nostalgia, but because the gameplay quality still holds up. By remastering more of these hidden gems, Sony could honor the legacy of the PSP while revitalizing interest in handheld console classics. It’s time these unforgettable experiences got the attention they deserve on modern systems.
